[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=width,350,true][/classy] It wasn't the first time she had daydreamed, and likely it wouldn't be the last. This time, Eleanor had been in the middle of putting sale tags on clothes during her shift at Victoria's Vintage; it was a small, dainty little shop. For how long she had been out of it, Ellie couldn't recall, but enough for her to start a small trail of drool down her chin. Damn... did I really start drooling? How embarrassing! Finishing up the tagging, Ellie worked for the last 15 minutes of her shift before clocking out and 'achieving' her paycheck.
Thrusting the white envelope into the air quite victoriously, Ellie shrugged on her coat and left the boutique. It wasn't too chilly outside, but you definitely could tell that it was autumn. Ellie was glad actually. One, it gave her reason to wear the coat (which was her favorite), and two, the leaves changing color had always been the determining factor in why fall was her favorite season. There had been nothing that was able to compete to friday nights underneath the stadium lights with her best buds and face-paint, cheering on the football team huddled in blankets.
Of course, it couldn't be done now. Those McKinley Students couldn't sit in their own stands and cheer on a football for probably a long time. And even then, it wouldn't be the same. It's just so... almost unspeakable. Too terrible. Just... Lord. Ellie shook her head and tightened the afghan scarf around her neck. She didn't need to depress herself. There were people who had it much worse than her eighteen year old self.
Eleanor Rehm tried to focus on the stores around her, walking a familiar path along a road that wouldn't be the same. No matter how much she tried to distract herself with thoughts of clothes or her mother or anything else even remotely interesting, the terrifying thoughts of the school, her own school (well, last year it was) collapsing came sneaking back. Sometimes it felt like the town just couldn't escape the whole ordeal. It was like they were frozen in a state of shock.
Looking up from her flats, Ellie found herself staring at the crumbled ruins of McKinley High. It was still breathtaking, even with the CAUTION: DO NOT CROSS tape everywhere. Ellie could see where the older part of the building collapsed, the hallways she had hung out in and lived in. A stage she had performed on. To think that some of her friends had died there in that chaos of an auditorium, it brought tears to her eyes.
Ellie didn't want to look for a bit, just to get a hold of herself. So the blonde turned around to compose herself, swiping a hand at her slightly wet face. Get a grip! You haven't cried since you found out! You're supposed to be the strong one people can lean on. After blinking away what could have been an ugly, bawling mess, Ellie saw someone out of the corner of her eye. Someone that.. could...possibly...just maybe need a little consoling.
And dammit, Ellie wanted to be that person.
"HEY! Hey, yeah!" Ellie waved and walked over, extending a hand when she got there. "I'm Ellie.. Do... well, Er." Eleanor paused for a moment, and just hugged the person. She didn't know who needed it more, but for the moment, she tossed the thoughts aside as her arms went around the complete stranger. She had no clue how they would react, but maybe the shock of that would be the same as the shock from the collapse, entombing them to live, but not grow older.

Why he had gone out of his way to come and see a wrecked School which he had never been to, which he had no ties to and didn't care for. Why should he? Looking at the destroyed section he sighed apatheticly. That kind of thing would never have happened back home, he bet, never back at England. Sure they complained about health and safety all the time, but at least it ensured things like this never happpened. Oh well, it wasn't as if it effected Shannon at all. Sure people had died and that was bad, he supposed, but nothing directly effected him, at least that's what he told himself.
He managed to convince himself that he came to scout out this spot for a good sleeping place should he ever want to ditch school and go and sleep, preferably a place where bugs wouldn't be found. He couldn't sleep when bugs were around. They were disgusting little creatures, always creeping about where you couldn't see them. They could be anywhere you knew if you didn't have them directly in your sight, the thought of that made Shannon shudder despite the fact no bugs seemed to be nearby. At least he hoped there wasn't. Shannon looked around himself just to be sure, finding that there was in fact no bugs on him or near him at that moment. All was good. For the most part at least. He saw some girl there but he didn't pay her much mind, so long as she didn't bother him Shannon would be in peace. He'd just ignore the fact that she was there for now. Still he pulled up his hood to conceal his face, it always made him feel safer. More distant. The further away he was the better, as Shannon saw it.
Shannon leaned on a nearby wall, away from the main part of the school, lowered his head and closed his eyes. The great thing Shannon was capable of, as he saw, was that he found himself able to sleep almost anywhere. Even standing up. So he prepared himself to go to sleep, ignoring the girl who was there fully, and began to drift away. Sleep was always good. He could just go into another world and feel secure, at least so long as he wasn't awake. He disliked the waking up part even more then he disliked being awake, the transition from asleep to awake was always such a drag. But he was going now, into the realm of sleep that he so loved.
At least he was until he heard someone talking. He ignored them, assuming it wasn't to him, only to then find arms wrapping around his body in the style of the well-feared 'hug'. "Whuu..." Shannon went groggily as he opened his eyes slowly to see the girl whom he saw before, whom he tried to ignore, hugging him. He paused as he stared at her for a moment, unreacting apart from the very evil stare he was giving her at that moment in time. Shannon didn't like hugs. "... Get off me." He didn't so much speak as he groaned the words out, as if irritated and annoyed by the hug. Shannon hoped his tone would further enforce the girl to get off him, he didn't feel comfortable being hugged. "What is your problem...?" He mumbled as a half-question, not really expecting or wanting an answer. [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=width,350,true][/classy] Normal people didn't approach strangers that happily. Normal people didn't hug random strangers with a collapsed school as the backdrop. But Ellie had come to learn she was not normal, and that she wasn't going to be normal any time soon? So why pretend to be normal? Who was she fooling? No one. Eleanor embraced her emotions and feelings. Her general weirdness was hers and hers alone. Being normal was way too complicated, anyway.
So she didn't think it weird at all to embrace a stranger she hadn't even made eye-contact with for more than ten seconds. In fact, it was almost weird for her not to. One thing was for sure, Ellie was a hugger. And a crier. Oh, don't forget a blubberer. It does one no good to hold everything in. Of course, she didn't like to cry or blubber in public where she had to be the strong one. Those were saved for when she was home... mostly alone. Her mother never came home anymore.
Ellie was too lost in her thoughts to really notice the boy's first pleas for her to release him from her grip. Which probably wasn't good for him, because that meant she wasn't paying attention to how close they had been for how long. Some people seemed to get really uncomfortable around others, especially when their personal space bubbles were invaded. Lucky for him though, Ellie heard his second one from where her head was located.
After the second it took to realize that she was still wrapped around someone who didn't like the embrace, she quickly pulled back with a nervous laugh. He was taller than her, but then again, most people were. Staggering back a couple of paces, Ellie composed herself. He definitely wasn't familiar to her, and he seemed a bit peeved that she had hugged him.
"Oh... Sorry! I just.. well, I thought you were here because... y'know. That led me to think you need a hug. Well, I needed one.. and I thought..." Ellie stopped to compose herself more. Stuttering and spazzy thoughts didn't do well when she was trying to be strong and composed. Come one Eleanor! "Well, that maybe we could kill two birds with one stone. Either way, I'm sorry if you're like, horribly offended by me now and stuff." |
[/b] Ellie figured the next thing to do was to introduce herself. After all, this stranger, he could need someone to lean on. "I'm Eleanor Rehm, but everyone calls me Ellie."[/color]Ellie stuck a pale hand out to the stranger, hoping that he would be at least pleasant to talk to. Proximity like that, up near to someone so that you were touching so close, just made him feel odd. He didn't like it. He prefered to keep his distance, in many ways, as it lessened the chance of getting attached to somone, something that Shannon wanted to avoid completely. Being attached could only lead to more suffering, like the friends and family who were hurt when those close to the died in this very area. But because of the attachment, because of the closeness and the feelings those people had for the dead loved, the suffering was prolonged. Chances were that someone would even commit suicide over it, so more people would die. Just pointless... Was there even anything real to be gained out of attachment? Shannon didn't think so at least.
And then she talked. Great. Shannon groaned as she did as such, putting his head in his hand an rubbing it. Even if it would have been weirder if she had just walked away Shannon couldn't help but think things would be better of if she had done that, then he could just forget the whole thing and go about his business. More talking just made the encounter go on longer, the longer the enounter the more Shannon had to wait before he could forget this stange girl and the fact that he had been hugged. Then he could go back to living his nice, unattached, calm life and she could go back to her life, however odd it was. At least Shannon assumed her life was odd, given that she had no thoughts to stop her from going up to a random person and just hugging them. Shannon knew he was an odd person who didn't like those things at all, but he also knew that normal people didn't even like someone doing that. Maybe she was drunk? Or high? Probably not drunk, she didn't seem to smell of alcohol.
She introduced herself, adding that 'everyone' called her 'Ellie'. Shannon groaned, making no attempt to hide it, a that statement. She must be one of those people, the popular ones who hand loads of friends or something stupid like that. Shannon didn't get those people, mostly on account of him being the exact opposite. They seemed to be energetic, talkative and emotional while he was quite frankly lazy, rather quiet and did his best to avoid spilling his feelings out to people. He could tell he wasn't going to really like this person, especially if she proceeded in pestering him. Still he thought he might as well say his name- His first name mind you, like hell was he going to tell a random stranger who seemed to want to be oddly close to him his full name.
"Shannon." He said as his own introduction before adding on more to make things less confusing, the way she acted this girl was probably stupid or something. "My name is Shannon, call me whatever I don't give a shit." He continued without much tone other then slight annoyance in his voice, it seemed to bring out his accent quite a lot. Shannon was capable of hiding his accent, in fact he had tried to when he first came to America, but he had decided that there really was no point with the way he had decided to live his life. "I promise you, Eleanor," He put emphisis on her name, mostly to assert the fact that he had chosen to call her that instead of some stupid nickname. "I don't need any hugs. I'm also quite sure that most people wouldn't do something as idiotic as to go up and hug a random person, especially if they suspect that said person is upset by something. Which, I assure you, I am not but the point still stands."
Shannon looked at Eleanor's outstretched hand and, instead of grabbing it, put his hands into his pockets having decided that he had been touched by this woman already too much for his liking. Hopefully she'd take that as a hint to leave him alone.[/style][style=width: 294px; padding: 00 0 20 15; border-left: 20px double #FDA500; font-family: verdana; font-size: 10px; color: FFFFFF; text-align: justify; margin-left: 30px; margin-right: -50px; margin-top: -2px]music: xxx words: 702 notes: The start of a wonderful friendship[/style][/style] |
