But then again, pain is also caused by a lack of having somebody with you. So really, what had caused the pain, is the absence of something that you love. You can't blame love, it isn't visible and it isn't healthy. What you can blame is your response to losing a loved one. You can sit and cry about it, you can wonder for hours what their life would have been like if the tragedy hadn't happened.... or you could do something about it.
While being at the beach isn't exactly 'doing something about it,' it does relax one and help one find some sort of 'them' time that they've apparently needed for a while. Whatever that meant. No matter how much his friends and family parents told him he needed to, he wished he was off helping somebody else where... bleh. This all made him want to do something, it wasn't relaxing at all. Narrowed closed eyes seemed to twitch every once in a while at an attempt to perhaps change his mind. Yes he needed this, no he didn't. Yes he deserved to relax, no he needed to be doing something. A heavy sigh escaped the white headed male as he then inhaled deeply extending all limbs for a large stretch. As he stopped stretching, his limbs all fell limp and hit the sand simultaneously. He exhaled and seemed to have let out a grunt while doing so. Kiba's eyes popped open, though his brows were still furrowed. Sitting up and lunging his arms forward, he brought his knees in to his chest and laid his elbows on his knees and let his hands fall limply toward the ground, not yet touching the sand though.
"Beach in the autumn is just a tease...."
He complained before holding his hand up to his eyebrows in an attempt to block the sun yet again. It wasn't hot, and he wasn't wearing the clothes for this sort of weather. A wife beater and a pair of swim trunks. Somehow from point A -- being his house -- and point B -- being the beach -- he had forgotten the whole 'autumn season' thing that was happening outside. A pair of sneakers were all the sort of 'warmth' that he could seem to find. Though, in a way, he thought it felt nice. Sure, it was sixty one degrees outside... but the wind was nice on the beach and the cold air felt good. Summer wasn't his favorite, but autumn sure was. Though, the beach wasn't his favorite setting in the autumn time considering the fact that he couldn't swim. Whatever, he'd try and be a human being for three seconds and enjoy the view.
One...
He started to count the time out in his head while staring toward the beach. It was pretty... but was he already starting to get bored?
Two...
Leaning back he narrowed his eyes at the water line. He had yet to look away from it and he didn't plan on doing so anytime soon.... but then again, he was starting to get bored.
Three.
He sighed and laid back down in the sand before giving out a gruntish sort of man sigh thing. One of those noises that let you know they're bored out of their mind and they need your help to make it better. His eyes stared at the clouds. Those were interesting. Hana always thought so too. That caused a smile to cross his features.
"She always loved clouds." [/style] |

Taking up the lifeguarding position at the tail end of summer probably wasn't the best idea Oliver ever had. That meant she'd have to take over one of the autumn slots.
"Lifeguarding in the autumn time is fun, said no one ever." She mumbled to herself as she twisted the sleeves of the long red hoodie she bought from the company store. The hoodie came to mid-thigh, and the slick swimsuit was her only comfort underneath that, the bright idea to easily access the swimsuit at all times was really getting on her nerves.
Lucky enough for her, Sweden wasn't really a warm place. The crisp 60-something weather didn't bother her as much as it would a normal person from the area, so she decided she really couldn't complain.
Her long green hair was tied high atop her head in a ponytail, tendrils cascading down her back and some falling over her shoulders. The ocean breeze didn't help to keep her hair tame either, but that was just a sacrifice she decided she had to make.
Checking her watch, she watched as the seconds ticked by. It seemed like her shift would last forever, but she knew it wouldn't. Hansel was supposed to stop by soon with a snack for her, hopefully sit and chat with her for a little while. Being a foreign teenager wasn't as easy as she wished it would be.
Suddenly a sharp gust of wind hit her directly in the face, sending little bits of sand scratching at her skin. "Horunge!" She cursed under her breath, wiping furiously at the skin, trying to warm her face back up.
Oliver crawled down from the chair and dug her bare feet into the sand, crossing her arms across her chest to try and keep the heat in.
In the distance she spotted her brother. She took off in a light jog and met him where the sand met the grass. "Hello brother!" She chimed, kissing him on the cheek and hugging him.
"Evening, sis. Here's a snack, mum made it for you." He held out his arms and a tiny plastic box. "Cake, I believe." He whispered.
She opened it up and held out a spoonful of the chocolate cake to her brother who happily accepted it. "Sweet! Tell mum I should be home right as soon as I am finished doing my duties here." With that, Hansel nodded and took off to the car where their mother sat inside. She waved to her before turning back.
Oliver scooped up some of the cake and popped it into her mouth, walking back to the beach with the spoon dangling from her mouth as she did so.
She noticed a person stretched out on the beach and paused, debating on approaching him or not. Being somewhat of an introvert, she decided against it and stood, onlooking him, the birds, and the horizon.

Slowly, ever so slowly, the clouds starting to shape and then suddenly they were just cotton candy shaped... without the stick.
"Turn back into something entertaining."
He commanded the mass of air and water. Alas, they didn't abide by his rules. Heaving a sigh he sat up and put his hands through his hair. He stopped his hands from going all the way back through his hair to the back of his neck, stopping right atop his ears. A small twitch of one of his fingers and then the wind started to blow. Frantically moving his hands through his hair, he started to grunt. He was so bored he could jump out of a car just to entertain himself at the moment. After his grunt, a small yell escaped him as he laid back on the beach sand with a soft thud on the sand beneath him. He glared at the clouds, still no shapes, no figures, no nothing. He narrowed his eyes before finally sitting up and then bringing himself to a stand. He decided that taking a walk would be a good idea. Turning his body around, he went to walk toward the exit of the beach when something red and green caught his eye -- and it was cute. He let his blood red eyes hit her bright gold ones. He arched his eye brows before staring at him a bit longer. He couldn't help the smile that crossed his features. She was beautiful and the beach complimented her well. He then lifted a hand and brought it to wave at her. Yes, that's right, he was saying hello to strangers. Mother told him not to once upon a time but he never did like listening to his mother. Along with a smile, he decided to greet her as well.
"Hey there!" [/style] |

Oliver had to admit, her mom made some pretty fantastic cake. Chocolate and just all around delicious. Wobbling the spoon around in her mouth, she pushed her bangs from her eyes and stared intently where the sky met the water. She could see why people used to think it was flat, there seemed to be no curvature at all, and if you went too far you could fall off into a huge waterfall. Oliver imagined it to be something to the effect of the Niagara Falls in Canada, and couldn't help but be amused at the thought of falling in a barrel from that.
She rubbed her arms again before shoving her free hand into the pocket of the hoodie. Her legs were exposed and started to get chill bumps, but decided to tough it out. She was just thankful that there weren't people out swimming and she had to go on a daring rescue. That would put her in a sour mood for sure. Oliver couldn't remember if she brought a towel today or not. Hopefully she wouldn't need it.
The sudden shout caught her off guard, and the spoon fell from her mouth into the sand. She looked over in mild shock at the white-haired boy who was waving at her before going to her knees to snatch up the sandy spoon. "So much for that. Dum." She mumbled as she dusted it off and placed it in her pocket.
She tried to think of the right way to greet a new person, and had somewhat of a mental battle. Should she say hello? Hi? Good day? Hej? Would he even understand hej? Too many questions, and all at once. Oliver never was good at introducing herself, or even saying hello. It was normally Hansel who socialized and introduced her to people. But she couldn't be rude and not say anything at all!
She nervously tugged down on her hoodie as she shyly waved back. "Um, hello." Oliver called back, trying her hardest to mask her Swedish accent.
Realizing she probably looked like a Christmas ornament with her green hair and red hoodie only made her more embarrassed. Even the little things seemed to get her. But what was a girl supposed to do?
Oliver took a few steps toward the boy, as he was close by the life guard chair, and closed up the cake. "It is, um, nice weather we are having. Yes?" She asked, trying to be social but utterly failing.

Mentally he reminded himself that it was just a spoon and she could get another one, or he could get her one, at that snack stand he passed a few minutes ago on the way over. So much for feeling bad. Now he could get back to checking her out. Ahem, yes, he had been doing so. That cute tug at her hoodie didn't go unnoticed either. A small smile crossed his features as she did so, but suddenly a different sort of expression was upon him. His eyes seemed to close as he gave a goofy smile and put a hand on his head as if patting himself to calm himself down.
"Kawaiiiiii...."
His mumbled foreign tongue came out a bit like a sigh as he smiled over at her. She honestly was one of the cutest girls he'd ever seen here in Farlax. Wait, she was new right? New prep? Hadn't he seen her around the school grounds? With that thought coursing it's way through his brain he let a normal and slightly quizzical expression befall his features before glancing her over once more. He wasn't thinking Christmas ornament, that was for darn sure. Instead, he was thinking he'd like to show her around... and then maybe give her a tour of the town. Perverted thoughts aside, Kiba watched her as she walked over. A small smile crossed his features as he looked her over. She was even cuter in person. While she seemed to be relaxing and asking him how the weather was -- or rather telling him what she thought of the weather -- he couldn't help but think the same thing he had before. She was so adorable... how did she manage? And she had this sexy vibe to her. This was dangerous, he could get in a bit of trouble with her.
"Yeah. Autumn here's pretty nice. It's not super cold, but it's not blazing hot either. Still not the type of weather one dares to swim in."
He replied with a smile to her while running a hand through his hair and scratching the back of his head just above his neck. He narrowed his eyes and turned his head.
"So you're new to Farlax huh?"

She couldn't really understand why she was as socially awkward as she was. Oliver could be all smiles and happy at home, but put her in a situation where she had to talk with a stranger and it was like her brain decided to take a vacation.
That was another reason she regretted moving to America. At least in Sweden she knew people. But here everybody was new; their names, their jokes, their personalities, nearly everything. Oh well, what could she do? At least this stranger seemed nice, a very personable guy. She imagined if Hansel was here he could easily make small talk with him. Hansel was that type of person.
Getting a better view of him, Oliver couldn't deny that he was handsome. His eyes were somewhat captivating, the crimson color stood out among his fair skin and white hair.
Oliver ran a hand through her bangs and attempted a relaxed smile. She didn't know why she was always so awful with guys, but she tried not to let it bother her.
"Is stupid to have lifeguards in the cooler season. No one here comes in the colder weather like they would back home." After a pause to push her sleeves over her hands, she nodded at his question. "Yes, new to America."

She seemed to be trying to talk to him. Well, he wouldn't back out now and dub her a freak. No, she was a lot like Hana used to be around guys. Though, Hana was such an accidental flirt... Regardless, she wasn't Hana. No, he wouldn't have such second minded thoughts about Hana. All his thoughts of Hana came from his real brain, not the brain between his legs. A small clearing of his throat due to the winds and a smile caused him to tilt his head at her and put a hand on his chin.
"If you're not from America..."
Kiba let his brows furrow in thought. He then stared hard at her. Not harshly, hard. He couldn't tell just by looking at her what her ethnicity was or where she originally hailed from. He had always been bad at that sort of thing.
"No good. I can't guess."
He threw his hand sup in defeat.
"Where you hail from?"
After posing his simple question, he put his hands in his pockets and raised his shoulders up and held his shrug there. He wanted her to be comfortable talking with him, so he'd try not to seem so... what was the word? Ah yes, brutish. He always seemed like a brute to other people. He wanted to seem nice to her. At least he had decided to leave that leather jacket at the house.

To say she was nervous would be an understatement.
First of all, she had no idea who this person was. He could have been a psychotic murderer, America had a lot of those according to the news and movies. Or he could just be a regular guy. Being an optimistic person, Oliver chose to believe he was just being friendly. He might be a student at the school for all she knew. It was best not to judge just yet.
As he furrowed his brow in thought, she couldn't help but let out a slight chuckle. She thought her accent would make it obvious, but so many accents sounded the same to her she could understand if he couldn't get the right one.
The stranger shrugged, showing his signs of defeat. He didn't even try. Oliver expected at least that, but maybe he was a bad guesser and she couldn't fault him for that. She wasn't so great herself.
"Sweden. I'm from Gothenburg Sweden. I moved to America just recently for family." She didn't think she would need go to into detail about why, as that should suffice.
Oliver shuffled on her feet and dug her toes into the sand, thinking over what she should say next. He seemed so nice, why let the conversation go to waste?
"What is your name?"

He seemed grieved, defeated, and slightly embarrassed. He thought for sure he had introduced himself at least! Class A Idiot mistake, and now he felt dumb for it. He ruffled his hair and gave a few sighs of discomfort and loss. He shouldn't have forced her introduction! He should have asked her what her name was after telling her was his was! He'd rectify this situation, and fast! He let one hand slide down to his side as the other continued to rub the back of his head as he smiled down at her, bright red eyes seeming to hold nothing but an odd and friendly warmth.
"Aaaaah. I'm so sorry, that must have been really awkward."
Holding out his hand to her, he gave a warm smile.
"Kiba. Sinmaru Kiba."
Again, he was being Japanese about his name. He narrowed his eyes and then arched one of his brows, a small and crooked smile taking over his features for a moment.
"My first name's Kiba... We Japanese just put our first name last... because we're hipster like that.... your name?"
He rolled his eyes at his own races' oddness and that caused a small shrug. He waited to hear her name, rather excited to hear it. He was a bit nervous around her -- which was completely understandable. She was from Sweden! How neat was that. He smiled at her and then decided to make a move knowing this new knowledge.
"Sweden... that's way up and over."
As he explained, he let his free hand be a guide for her eyes as it moved up and over in the air. Explaining things with his hands was a Kiba trademark.
"So I guess it isn't too cold right now compared to what it would be like in Sweden this time of year, huh?"
