His father wasn't the best role model... actually he was a horrid one. Mr. York was the type of dad you didn't let near your teacher, or anyone else. He was a class A alcoholic, and a violent one at that. Isaac and his mother were beaten whenever he fell into one of his 'moods'. To make matters worse, his mother had been too scared to get a divorce, imprisoning them to locked doors and nights filled with whimpering. Isaac thought it was normal, that all kids were beaten...yet he was the only one with bruises. When his father was sent to jail because of illegal substances, They booked it out of town, and into Farlax. He would be incarcerated for a long time, and his mother took that as a chance to finally be free. Of course, her family helped, settling the duo in a small apartment on the edge of the city slums, where his mother clung on to as many jobs as she could to help Isaac through his school years. Safe from the threat of a belt or a fist, Isaac had time to focus on school work... not that he wanted to. In fact, with his diagnosed Dyslexia, it made it awful hard. He preferred listening to people, letting the audio teach him. It was after the move that he got into music. Audio that taught his soul, per se. Isaac got his first guitar, a cheapo first act one that broke before his fourteenth birthday. He was hooked from the first chord he played to the first note he sang, everything about music just clicked with him. The music never stopped, even when he got to high school. He had made a couple of friends; the ever bright and positive Reyna, as well as the 'debbie-downer' Cassidy, her partner in crime. They hung out often, and reluctantly Isaac got help with his work from Cassidy. Really, he just liked hanging out with Reyna, as he had had a crush on her. She was the one who convinced him to audition for Hairspray their junior year. That's when his life crashed. They both had been there. Reyna and Isaac had been auditioning. Except when the horrific event ocured, Isaac had excused himself to another part of the school to use the bathroom. Reyna had wanted to talk to him, but he wanted to go cool off from the nervousness of his performance. So he had excused himself. He hadn't been there to protect her when it collapsed. He hadn't been there. Isaac himself sustained head trauma and several broken bones from where part of the wall collapsed in aftershock in the restroom. Isolated in the hospital, he had to learn from a sullen Cassidy about what happened to their mutual friend. Heart-broken, Isaac didn't know if he could go on, but a serious talk with his adopted half sister Jennifer quickly changed that. (They found another kid of his father, and when her mother died, took her to his family.) It took a while to recover physically (and he still can't play his guitar), but emotionally Isaac was still just as broken as the day he found out Reyna had died. He now goes to Farlax Prep, and helps lead a support group of fellow people who were at the auditions. One could say the incident made him more mature, while others say his mood swings and anger is childish.
